Seattle Sweetened Beverage Tax

Please be advised that from January 1, 2017, businesses within City of Seattle is subject to Sweetened Beverage Tax.

Sweetened Beverage tax is defined as beverage that is sweetened by sugar, high-fructose corn syrup or low-calories sweetener.

 

The tax is imposed on any sale of Sweetened Beverage purchased outside the city limit and distributed within City of Seattle.

For example, if you purchase any Sweetened Beverage at Lynnwood Business Costco and sell them at your store located within City of Seattle, the sale is subject to tax.

 

The following sales are NOT subject to the tax:

1.      If the beverages were purchased from a wholesaler located in Seattle

2.      If the beverages are delivered to your store by the vendor

 

The tax rate is 1.75 cents per ounce.

 

Any taxable sales will be reported on quarterly City of Seattle Excise Tax Return. Please report the amount of taxable sales at each quarter end.
