Dear Clients of SKJ & Company, P.S.:
Passed by the state Legislature in 2019, the Long-Term Care Trust Act imposes 0.58% of Washington State Long-Term Care Tax on all wages earned in Washington State starting January 1, 2022.
Long-term care benefit is available starting January 1, 2025 with the following maximum benefit:
$100 per day
$36,500 per person (Lifetime maximum)
The benefit is not available if you are not a WA resident when applying for the benefit
Workers can be exempt from the tax by purchasing qualifying long-term care insurance by meeting the following requirements:
The worker already has a qualifying long-term care insurance
The worker purchases qualifying long-term care insurance by November 1, 2021
The definition for qualifying insurance can be found here: https://www.insurance.wa.gov/what-qualifies-long-term-care-insurance
Once the above requirement is met, the worker must submit the exemption request to WA Employment Security Department between 10/1/2021 and 12/31/2022.
If you are looking for an exemption from this tax, please consult with your insurance agent.
Thank you,
